Our 1988 Corwn Vic sat for about a mounth without being driven anywhere far, I only moved it around the yard and started it every few days.<br /><br />One day I noticed the gas gauge being very low, lower then I've ever seen it before. My dad took it to get gas. It now has a full tank and it is still reading dead empty.<br /><br />Is this something that can be fixed eazy, or should we just live with it?

Re: Car question

PS,<br />During the time it sat it had about 1/2 a tank, so it did not sit with no gas in it.

Re: Car question

It could be the sending unit in the fuel tank.<br />Ground the sending wire at the tank, If the<br />Gage goes to full it is the sender in the tank.<br />If it stays the same it will likely be the gage.

Re: Car question

I was just talking to my dad about it, he knows how many miles the car can go untill it needs gas, it will never get fixed. Thanks anyway.

Re: Car question

Ryan, do you have any mice around your house, they like to chew wires on sitting cars

Re: Car question

A corroded ground wire can cause this problem as well. Do a continuity check on the sending units ground first. Or the sending unit is hung up within the tank. Drive the car around and let the gas slosh around. It my dislodge it. JUst a thought.....SS

Lmao Castaway. I remember reading one mishap where a forklift operator in a warehouse tries to start the forklift, it doesn't crank. So he decides to make sure the battery isn't dead. Thinking maybe its low on water, he pops off the battery caps. Can't see down into the battery, so pulls out the 'ol Bic and: strike, kaboom!

Yep, and I also read once a guy had lost his pet rat. Looked all over the place for it. Eventually found it in the exhaust pipe of his motorcycle. Lit his bic to get a better look, ignited some fumes and the rat shot out of the pipe like a bullet right into his face. Killed the rat and busted his face pretty good. That there is funny as heII, don't care who you are.

Re: Car question

Larry the Cable Guy kills me! Here's the story I read:<br /><br />"In retrospect, lighting the match was my mistake. But I was only trying to retrieve my son's rat." **** Stone told doctors in the severe burns unit of San Francisco City Hospital. <br /><br />Admitted for emergency treatment after an attempt to retrieve the rat had gone seriously wrong, "My son left the cage door open so his rat, Vermin, escaped into the garage," He explained. "As usual, it looked for a good place to hide and ran up the exhaust pipe of my motorcycle. I tried to retrieve Vermin by offering him food attached to a string, but he wouldn't come out again, so I peered into the pipe and struck a match, thinking the light might attract him." <br /><br />At a hushed press conference, a hospital spokesman described what had happened next. "The flame ignited a pocket of residual gas and a flame shot out the pipe igniting Mr. Stone's mustache and severely burned his face. It also set fire to the pet rat's fur and whiskers which, in turn, ignited a larger pocket of gas further up the exhaust pipe which propelled the rodent out like a cannonball." <br /><br />Stone suffered second degree burns and a broken nose from the impact of the pet rat. His son was grounded for 6 weeks.
