Hi all,
Got a car wax question. Just wax the car a few weeks back with Meguier wax. The wax gave a car a nice look and when running the finger along the car surface it was very slippery. After two rain storms and two car wash, I noticed that the slippery factor is now gone. Does that mean I'm going to lose my UV protection that the wax give and do I have to wax again?

Re: car wax

Car waxes are like fishing lines, everyone has a favorite. It can boil down to the way is smells.

My boss allways has a new hot product, so I dont even bother anymore, I never know whats on any of the cars I manage.

Allways use a car wash soap, they wont wash off the wax.

Allways towel dry after washing. ;)

Never run your car through a car wash.

Wax your car with something at least every 6 months. :D

Now, when was the last time I waxed my truck???

Re: car wax

They used to recommend only waxing twice a year, spring and fall. It was said that the wax would build up and dull the shine of the paint.

Re: car wax

If you waxed by hand, the results are typical. If you use a rotary buffer when applying,it will last much longer.A hand wax is basically applying some wax on top of the dirt ,oxidation and finish. When you machine it in it actually removes any dirt and oxidation and removes a micro-like layer of paint and gets the wax into the finish.

Meguiar's makes so many varities of wax. Which one did you use? As B F says, always use a car wash soap. The amount of dirt and grit on your car will affect the wax when washing. Rinse gently, not high pressure.

Re: car wax

Meguier's most popular is a "cleaner/wax" which contains a certain amount of an abrasive. I usually finish my cars off with Mother's wax. You might need an additional coat of a wax with carnuba (and without a cleaner additive). The finish may not have that slippery feel but at the first rain storm you should see the beading of the water.

If your finish is not beading in the rain your car needs attention.

Waxing: what a waste of time. Wifes 10 year old car, just washed it today and dried it off. Still looks as good as the day we brought it home. The soap I use to wash it with is what we were using to wash the dishes at the time, normally Joy.

Must be a lighter color car, if you were to look at it in florecent light, you could see the small scratches and the fading. What kind of a car? Beleive me, you are not doing the finish any favors. If it was a Chrysler or GM product, the paint would be falling off.

Re: car wax

It's a necessary part of maintenance here in VT. We have 5 seasons....Summer, Fall (salt), Winter (more salt), Spring (more salt) and our coveted MUD Season (salt and Mud). We usually have salted roads from Oct - May and it is hard on the finish.

10 year old car that looks good! There are days here that if you go 10 minutes it is an accomplishment!
