Make sure you can listen to the motor run - if not running then keep the price very low like 500 bucks. If you don't know anything about boat motors find a friend who does to help you make sure the motor is decent.

On these old boats the motor is the most important part - if not running or blown then the boat really has little value.

I agree with farrell. it's always nice if they're not running becuase then the price really drops.

Knock around on the transom and pull the head and check cylinder walls or do compression (but I have seen motors with good compression and grooves in the walls and for some reason alot of times the LOWER cylinder is bad).

If you can get it for $500 it would be a steal! I seen a few for $2500 running and looking good.

I see an old fiberglass boat on a rusty trailer left open to the elements for a long time. The boat is most likely completely rotted out and will require a total rebuild. Could be a good motor but as was mentioned that's the only value. Don't pay much for it. It's a nice looking boat and would be worthwhile to fix up if you're up for a project.

Everyone should assume this about any boat that has any wood in it unless they have inspected it themselves and knows what to look for.
