i All,

I was wondering if someone could help me out. I don't know much about inboard engines.

Since I've lost my Bayliner in the hurricane, I'm considering purchasing a used 2002 Caravelle Sea Hawk 230 Walkaround with a 300 HP engine.

The boat itself is in beautiful shape. However there are few things that don't look so good, especially a pretty heavily rusted area of the engine. Please see attached pictures.

I read on a forum that there was a defect in the engine box seal that allowed rain water to get in. I'm not sure if that was the problem here.

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks!

It is the manifold, riser, and elbow joints . . . They appear to be seeping water out of the gasket seal. Should be disassembled, inspected, and replace parts as needed.

Also, it is worth doing a cylinder leak test to see if there are any valve issues resulting from water getting down into the exhaust manifolds. Once everything is dis assembled, the condition of the exhaust manifold will be more evident.
