First of all thanks to all who helped me with my orignal problem. i rebuilt the carbs and on the muffs it runs and idles just fine. Took it to the water today and it cranked just fine. When i went for more throttle the engine bogged down or sounded like i was flooding it. I adjusted the linkage between the carbs which opens the butterfly and got it to run pretty good. Still sounds like to me i'm not getting full power. I don't have a tach so i can't go by rpm.
This is a 88hp 1990 Johnson.Any help would be appreciated.

Re: carb adjustment?

Could be the throttle plates aren't opening at the same time Austi. To check, make sure the throttle cam is backed off the roller on the top carb. Losen the screw on the top carb that holds the throttle link, that's that long bent rod that goes to the lower carb, and snap both throttle plates closed. Hold the upper throttle lever to take up the slack in the throttle link and retighten the screw. Now, put the control to WOT and check the throttle plates are wide open. They should be laying flat across the carb throat.

If you have a service manual, do a complete sync and link. This gets the timing and opening of the throttle plates in time.
