I have read the joe reeves post about carb adjustment, and used it to perfection on my old rude 25hp. But after rereading it and then searching old posts i have not come across a useful unjumbled post that i can use. I just cleaned and rebuilt my carbs and was looking at the idle screws thinking that i need to check them next time im on the lake and have the time. It idled fine before i rebuilt them but had some other carb like problems so i rebuilt both of them.

Anyway i have a 1981 60hp johnson 2 cyl. There are two idle screws (intermediate idle and idle) that i see on the BRP parts page. I can't find in joe reeves post how to adjust these type carbs, because it seems both are idle and not idle and high speed.

Sorry if this is confusing.

A simple recap: How do i adjust these carbs for this engine?

Re: carb adjustment

There are no idle needles in those carbs clemson....those screws you see are plugs over the fixed orifice jets. Idle is adjusted with the idle screw on the throttle lever after a link and sync is done.

Take another look at the parts breakdown.

Re: carb adjustment

your right, i got my terminology mixed up and also not an expert on outboards. Carbs are linked and sinked i have checked them over and it idles fine not to high or low so i guess i,m good. I just figured they had an idle adjustment on carbs. After the second closer look they look like the fixed high speed orfice/jet in the pic, because as you said they are?

Thanks!

Re: carb adjustment

nate if running on muffs, the idle has to be set higher, and reset when the engine is in the water, on muffs there is no backpressure on the exhaust.
