Can someone please tell me if having the fuel tank positioned above the motor will cause flooding. I have replaced needle seats and floats. I dont know what else it could be. thanks
a closed/blocked vent can allow pressure build-up in the tank with temperature chages. This pressure can get high enough to force the needle open against the float causing flooding. Try loosening the fill cap and see if this helps.
or
are you sure its flooding from the carb? Is it possible your fuel pump diaphram is leaking into the crankcase?
I am pretty sure it isnt the carbs. I took the fuel pump apart and looked at it . I am new with boat motors and not quite sure what to look for. I have been running it with the muffs on and waiting for 15 min or so to see if it will fire up and i have not had any more problems. Prior to this when I was having problems It sucked the rest of what was left in the tank overnight.
to fix the diaghram do I need to purchase a rebuild kit to do this?
it CAN if there is alot of gas in the tank. a needle and seat can only hold back about 7PSI at most. if there is more pressure than that it will over load the float and cause it to overfill.
Id really have to do the math on how much pressure is in a given size line with a given amount of fuel pushing on it tho.
that sounds like a good project for a rainy day.
I have put the tanks back down to the original position resting on the pontoons and i put a nipple on the cap and did away with the vent screw and just ran a vent hose off the cap. I have been starting it up with the muffs and waitiing for a while to see if it floods and it hasnt yet , maybe this was my problem . Thanks
