I've had one of my carb bowls lapped as a result of the plastic warpage issue. Having a similar issue this year and guessing I may have the same issue in another carb. I am looking for the replacement aluminim bowls if available and I am finding replacements...just can't confirm for my specific model number. Would appreciate any advice. My outboard is a 1991 Johnson 115 VRO model #J11STLASB serial #R08617222. If I am able to find 4 of these will I need to replace anything other than the gasket with the swap from plastic to aluminum bowls? Are the balance of the parts interchangeable?

Appreciate the help...

Re: Carb Bowl For 1991 115 VRO

You should be able to order the original part number (398544) carb bowl for your engine. The Bombardier system will supercede that part number and direct you to the correct aluminum bowl (437214) you need. Keep in mind that it is not a direct swap. The small jets in the bowl will have to be changed, as the thread size in the new bowls do not match your current jets. Also, the two bowl drains (and gaskets) will have to be replaced, as they have different threads also. You will need two bowls at about $100 each, 4 bowl drains, 4 washers (orings,) and 4 mid range jets of the exact same opening. It sounds complicated, but you will be very happy with the results when finished.

Having not opened my hood to look at the carbs I am thinking I have 4 carbs as a result of my conversation with my local marine dealer...does that sound right? If so, do I need 4 of everything you listed?

Greatly appreciate your response...

That crossflow has two 2-barrel carbs. Two carb bowls and 4 of everything else. They went to 4 carbs on the loopers in 1995. You might want to check out the factory parts lists online: epc.brp.com.

I visited the site...thanks by the way. The problem I'm having is finding my specific model number. It's not listed as one of the options. I did find and purchased the bowls and am trying to identify the various other parts you've referenced. For the jets, I'm not seeing mid range jets. I see idle and high speed for instance on the models listed and one of them lists only one jet option. Thanks again...

Most of the factory service manuals list all the Bombardier carb jets. You will have to get your hands on one. The mid jets you have in the engine are 1/4 X 20 "C" size jets. You will have to go to 8-32 size jets. Just make sure they are stamped with the same jet size.

Thanks again. Have everything but the jets. Looks like a 67C. I found my exact model number outboard listed under 1990 model year...sorry about the confusion. I picked the bowls up for just over $50 a piece and found everything else for reasonable money and the 4 67C jets are all that remain. Will be back on here with questions once I get everything I am sure. Again, appreciate the assistance.
