The two fingers that hang down from the carb body that holds the pin that holds the float. One of these was broke off when I opened the carb up. I have the piece and the carb is cast alumnium.

Will JB Weld hold up to the gas inside? If not is there anyother way to put this piece back on?
The carb is off a '57 15hp Evinrude so I know I would have trouble finding another carb.

Re: carb broke HELP!!

TT..... Repairing that item is very improbable, but old carbs can be found at many outboard repair shops. Some engines have blown powerheads etc and the business may discard the damaged parts, but will save the other components.

However, OMC (Evinrude/Johnson) did not manufacture a 15hp in 1957. The older 15hp engine was only manufactured in 1956. Get the model number to us and we'll pinpoint what engine you have so that you don't go looking for the wrong part.

Re: carb broke HELP!!

I am not sure what to believe anymore. The man I got the motor from and the registration both say that the motor is a 1960 15hp. When I took the carb and S/N number to my local (OMC) boat shop they said it was a 1957-1958 motor.

There is no model number anywhere. The only thing on the motor besides the S/N is "Evinrude Fastwin 15." It is pale blue with white graphics. I'll have to post the S/N number later. I am not at home and do not have it with me.

Joe, thankx for the earlier help. When I got the carb apart I figured out what went were with ease.

Is it soldered on to the float? You can probably still order a new float if it is.

Use tha JB Weld. Wash both parts good with soap and water. Rinse good and let dry. Let the JB Weld cure good (over night).
I JB Welded aluminum baffles in die cast carb bodies for years, no problems.

c/6

Hooty
