Re: carb cfm?
JD,

40-50 is a lot of HP to add, so much so that I would be skeptical of those numbers on a 4.6l especially given that you're still using a 2 bbl carb. Anyway, you generally need the engine size, max RPM and Volumetric Efficiency of the Engine (VE) to figure the optimal carb size for your motor. A typical VE is @ 85-90% for normal engines. Given a VE of 90% with your engine size, the following info should give you a good ball park figure for the size carb to use.

A 750 CFM to @ 9000 RPM
A 650 CFM to @ 8000 RPM
A 600 CFM to @ 7000 RPM
A 450 CFM to @ 5500 RPM

In my opinion, too much carb is worse than too little. In other words, don't buy that 750 CFM if you're only going to be running at 7000 RPM max.

Hope this helps.
