Help again, please. I just installed my new float bowl on my carburator for my 1991 6 hp Evinrude E6REIA motor. Well, the new float bowl came with a hole for a drain plug in the bowl and my old one did not have one. Therefore, I did not order a new drain plug (screw) for the new bowl. I do not even see the plug mentioned on any pictures or breakdowns of my carb.

I plan on just going to my local hardware store and getting a screw to plug the threaded hole. The shoulder bolt from my choke linkage fits the hole perfect, so I can match the correct sized threads with no problem. MY QUESTIONS: How short does the screw need to be so it does not interfere with the float inside the bowl? Do I need to install a flat fiber washer, rubber washer or 'O' ring on this drain plug?? Thanks!

I reckon you have been supplied with a bowl for a later model. ITYFF that from '94 onwards they had a drain plug , with a sealing washer, #34 and #33

That is correct. Vic. I looked at my order confirmation on line again, and the washer and plug were suppose to be included with the float bowl (which fit great on my older motor). If I cannot find a bolt to fit the bowl today at either the local hardware stor or at an Evinrude repair shop here, then I will make a call to where I bought the carb bowl at and let them know they need to send me the plug & washer that they neglected to send witj my order. The only thing bad is I have to wait for that to arrive before I can try out my trolling motor. :grumpy:

That drain plug appears to be universal on Johnson / Evinrude from the early 1960's to 2007 models.-----Most shops would have some kinking around near the work bench.----Any short screw with 1/4-20NC thread can be used.

This is what the drain screw looks like. I guess it is 1/4" or 5/16" long

One last question (I hope) LOL The air box shown in the diagram above in post #2 shows only one hole in it and that hole is plugged. (with plug # 46 in the diagram) In mine, there is a second hole to the right of the one shown above. The second hole is not shown in the diagram, nor is a second plug shown. My question is this: Does the second hole also need to be covered with a plug, or does it need to remain open to get some air into the box??? Thanks!

Thanks again for all of your help. I am all set now with the drain plug and my question concerning the air silencer box. The place where I bought my float bowl from said they would send me a plug for the bowl which was suppose to be included but somehow it was missed. Got it yesterday along with another new flost bowl! I called them and told them all I needed was the plug and they said they are sent out in a kit with the bowl, so just keep the extra bowl. I informed them I did not want to get charged for the second bowl and they said I will not be charged, but it was not worth them paying for the shipping again, so now I have a spare float bowl.

My motor runs and trolls great now after I rebuilt the carb, but I do have to take the RPMs down slowly from fast throttle to trolling or if I go too fast, it will shut the motor off. Is this the norm??
