Carb float wont come out

I've taken off the float bowl cover from the top carb on my Mark 55A. The inside of the bowl looks almost brand new. The float levers and inlet needle look fantastic... But, the float will not budge. Its stuck down. Almost like someone had superglued it. How do I pull it out? I don't care about damaging it because a new float is going in anyway...

Can you get a small flat blade screwdriver under it? Then turn to pop it loose.

I bent a paperclip to form a small L and tried, but it wont budge. It wiggles around when I apply pressure... But, other than that... So, theres nothing holding it down there? I just have to work the little bastard free?

If you are pitching the float, maybe you can screw in a drywall screw and take a pair of pliars to pull out. Ugly way to do it, but should work....

I'm kinda thinking so... But why would it not come out? Is there something holding it down? I can slide a paperclip all the way down the side of it and move it all the way around. I'd just hate to break anything, cuz most of that motor isn't made anymore.
Fortunately, the float is still made. It's $10 something.
I just don't get it. The inside of the carb is immaculate. Like it was cleaned just yesterday. Not a bit of visible varnish or contamination, yet its fifty years old and the float is stuck.

the engine was probably ran last with the dreaded e word in the fuel...the residue attacked the cork(i'm assuming) float making it "grow" to the bottom of the bowl.didnt have to worry about all that stuff back then huh.....hope it helps

Ultra-weak. I should probably replace both floats then...
Makes me even happier that the gas station down the street just put in a new ethanol-free gas pump.
