Hello Again ,
My Last Post Was Asking The H.p. Rating Of My Omc 5.0 Liter Gm Motor And I Really Appreciate All The Input I Received But Now I Would Like To Ask All Of You Which Carb Would Be The Best For My Boat ? It's Completely Stock And All I Want Is Dependability And Not "go Fast"or Anything. I've Looked At Rochester 4mv But Am "iffy" Because Of Stories I've Heard About "short Life" And Poor Design. The Other Carb Was Holley's 600 Cfm 4160 Series.any Comments Will Be Greatly Appreciated .. Thanx In Advance, Drisky

Re: carb for a 5.0 liter

I like the Holley 4160. What is wrong with your current stock carb? It would also be interesting to know the CFM rating for the stock carb. My hotrod Gulfstream with 5.0 roller motor uses a 600 cfm Holley 4160.

On my stock 188hp Beachcraft 302, I'm going to install a 450 cfm Holley 4160.

If you go with the 4160 600 cfm, be sure it is jetted for the 5.0/302. Many come out of the box set up for a 350/351/5.7.

You should also post this question up in the I/O forum. It'll get a lot more exposure.

Check to make sure your accelerator pump is pumping gas. You can look down the venturis with the motor off, pump the throttle and watch for fuel being squirted down the bore. It might be a simple fix.

That Edelbrock is a great carb for that engine (assuming you don't have the 750CFM). The secondaries are mechnical, but it has a vacuum door over them so you never have a "bigger hole" than your engine needs. They came from the factory on Mercs V6 and V8s(badged as Webers).

Like mentioned above, check the accelerator pump, and if needed rebuild the whole thing.
