I've got a 3.0L 1991 mercruiser alpha one, The boat has been good off the line until just past plain then it sputters and slows down to a beautiful troll. I started it in the driveway and now it will run for exactly 17 seconds and then stall every time. If I give it a little gas it will immediately stall. I took off the top cover and was able to look down into the barrel of the carbs and when I give it gas, without the boat running, no gas squirts into the carbs and it feels like there may be air or something in their. What do you guys think? thanks

Re: carb help please

Ok so here's where we're at, I pulled the carbs off and gave them a thourough scrubbing. The inside jets were almost hardened by this beige gunk. So I cleaned it all out and re-assembled the carb. As well I cleaned the inline fuel filter that had junk all in it as well. Then I removed the fuel pump and this was shocking. In the bowl of the pump there was a pile of broken rusty bits, and I do mean a pile. I cleaned all that out and disassembled the pump as well. I cleaned everything and blew it all out then re assembled the fuel pump. I then hooked everything back up and started it up in the driveway. It's never had such a beautiful idle before, and it just kept running away. The true test will be when it's under load tomorrow on the water. I'll keep you all posted.

Stalling problem solved

Stalling problem solved

(1991 alpha one 3.0L) It works like a charm. I cleaned the rust out of the fuel pump and cleaned all the gunk out of the inline fuel filter and chisled the gunk off the jets in the carb and now the boat drives awesome. thanks guys.
