Just bought a 86 tracker from an older gentleman who gave up fishing many years ago....boat has sat almost 4 or 5 years, but was extremely well cared for before the storage....has a mercury 45hp classic fifty and around a 1990 evinrude 9.9 kicker as well....after replacing starter, some wiring, spark plugs, fuel lines, fuel filter, and lubing the cylinders i thought it might be ready to attach a battery and try to start the motor....i attached the gas and starting pumping up the pressure ball....it did get solid but i stopped when i saw a stream of gas coming from the lower carb. i attached a pic

gas was shooting from the drilled out brass screw shown at the 2 o'clock position every time i pumped the ball only on the lower carb....so that is as far as i have gotten on this project....is there an intake piece that bolts to this side of the carb to keep that from happening.....cause what i took a pic of is all that was there.....no air filter?...i bought a book for merc motors seloc or heloc or something like that, and it is absolutely worthless for the carb....
the mix needle isnt wore, and it looks as if the carbs were rebuilt probably before it was stored but there was some 5 year old gas still in the system so im not sure if i should rebuild them....
any advice on what to do next would be great, john
