Carb leaking fuel

Hey guys--

1985 85 horse Force

Engine normally runs great-

Started it today and it was running rough and would not idle.

Pulled cover and the middle carb is pouring fuel out the side. Bulb is not really soft, but it's not hard like it usually is.

Looking for a quick fix to get me back on the water Saturday.

Thanks

Re: Carb leaking fuel

Needle valve is stuck open, or the rubber tip on the needle valve has gone bad and it won't seal.

If it's just some gunk preventing the needle valve from closing, it might be an easy fix.

1. Remove the cover on the fuel pump where the fuel lines is attached coming from the fuel tank. There is a filter screen in there. Check for debris and clean out if necessary. Re-assemble.

2. Remove the fuel bowl of the problem carb. Float should drop down. Be careful not to push the float up or bump it by accident. Put a container under the carb where the fuel bowl was to catch fuel. Pump the primer bulb a few times. Fuel should squirt out ( into the container) hopefully it'll flush out the junk allowing the needle valve to seat properly. Re-assemble and test by pumping primer bulb.

3. Now, go and get one of those $10.00 in line fuel filters and install it between the fuel pump and carbs so you won't have this problem again.

If it's a bad needle valve it will have to be replaced.
