My 68 murcury 500 50hp is leaking fuel from the carbs. I would like to know is this a carb problem or a fuel pump problem or is there another problem that i don't know about. Just a little extra info the motor runs fine on land but when i put it in the water it runs for a short time and stalls out. I also noticed a hissing sound when i pump the bulb to prime the fuel is this normal... thank you for any help.
:(

If you find out please let me know, i've been battling this problem too. I am starting to think fuel pump, i've changed needles seats, float level, added two inline fuel filters , still leaking out the front. everyone says needle and seats, needle and seats, needle and seats, ugh , i've visited these so many time i can litterely do it with my eyes closed. i'm starting to think too much pressure from the pump.

You didn't tell us what engine you have John, but if the fuel isn't coming from the carb, it's blowing back out through the reeds.

c/6

Hooty

The hissing sound is normal when you pump the priming ball, it is the sound of gas filling up the carb bowl or bowls.
