I'm putting in a carb kit on my vintage 1956 15 HP Johnson and the needles look a bit worn. I'd like to find a Low Speed pn 303945 now discontinued.
Engine trolls good and has good WOT too but I must readjust the carb each time I change speed.
I hope the carb kit takes care of this but am wondering if I should search out new needles while I'm in there. The low speed needle is hard to find. I posted a picture of my worn needles. Looking at them I'd say they are kind of bad.

Try Twin City Outboards, Laing's or Engine, Blade and Prop...all on the Web. You also need some packing nuts for both high and low speed needles.

Do you have to readjust because the needles move? If they're moving, all you may need to do is tighten up the packing nuts a bit to snug them up... Replacing the packing underneath the nuts may be needed if simply tightening the nuts doesn't work...

That slow speed needle is history. I wouldn't worry about the high speed one. Know anybody with a lathe? You probabley can re-point the slow one. Some people do it with a drill and a file.

Also, check your carb-spark advance sync.

Re: Carb Needles 56 FD-10

I put the carb bac together with a carb rebuild kit. Took it out in lake and it ran much better. The old inlet was bad, it actually had a rubber tip on it and no spring to the float. When I throttled up to full speed the float dropped and the inlet needle must have been sticking thereby causing my problem. I might try using a file and drill on the low speed needle next time I'm in for service because I wish it idled a bit better, but otherwise she's doin a lot better.
Almost 38 bucks for the high speed needle, I guess they stopped making the low speed in 2002.
Sync is right on.
