carb or gas pump loseing prime

ok i am back with some ?? help me here fellas. what would cause after running then stop to fish when try to restart i have to crank crank the keys for it to restart,???? <br /><br /><br />it seems like the gas line is not holding prime. what could be the cause?? <br /><br />some say it ios trhe carb<br /><br />some say it is the fuel pump looseing its prime.<br /><br />help please i am in the process of buying a new fuel pump but want to hear this forum input ..<br />could it also be the starter?? 1989 5.7L 260 hores p 4 barrel rochster carb

new plugs wires cap and roto timing is good compression is good also<br /><br />it start every time but i dont like the winning when i first go to the boat it start one go after i pump the throttle three times, again i wonder if the starter is the problem when its get hot it spin slo anyway help me please

I dont think its fuel delivery. If the fuel pump drained back you still should have plenty of gas already in the carb for a warm restart.<br />I would check for flooding or if the choke is coming open properly.

Could be carb flooding after shutdown, or possibly vapor locking maybe.

ok thanks guys so what could be causing a vapor lock? so far the oil is clean nosighn of water. the only problem i notice the starboard riser is much hotter than the port both risers are new the manifolds are what i got with the boat.<br /><br />please tell me more about the choke how to adjust ect or trouble shoot it. ONE LAST THING AFTER EVERY RESTART I SMELL GASS AFTER IT IS RUNNING THE SMELL goes away thanks sorry about the shouting
