Carb passage blocked? QUADRAJET MCM 228

I hope you and yours are remaining healthy and safe during this unprecedented time.
Below is a pic of the passage that is blocked (I believe). I have cleaned it with a piece of SS safety wire. The wire goes in the same depth as the other side. As I understand it, this is a passage that connects to the jet port at the bottom of the bowl. The one on the right terminates there. I am presuming (I’ve learned not to ASSume lol), that the one on the left does the same. I have removed the plug on the bottom to gain access and can not get this passage to open up. I have soaked the part in HOT cleaner overnight in our ultra-sonic parts cleaner. I’ve tried different degreasers, compressed air, nothing has worked.. I can not see how they machined the hole in the first place.

Could you please confirm this needs to be open? Also any advice on how to clear it out if so. Thanks in advance for your assistance on this.

It is a MARINE CARB ROCHESTER QUADRAJET 5.0 MCM 228 17059292 MERCRUISER.​
