Working on a 1986 omc 140hp starcraft 4 cylinder. It has a Gm Rochester carburetor on it. Runs great wot but when we stop and idle for a min, the motor stops. I'm thinking the carb needs adjusting. Replaced points with electronic ignition the other day. I like to reset the mixture and idle on card to see if I have it adjust wrong. If I go all the way in with the adjustment on the carb, how many turns out on both to get them close to the right adjustment on carb? Also any other ideals on what may be happing to cause this problem? also the adjustment on the carb linkage is adjusted all the way in. Not sure way this is. thanks

yup, there's lots of help on here about carb adjustments..

BEST way is to put the boat in the water, say at a dock or still tied to a trailer, run the engine till warm
shut down, open the hood, disconnect the throttle cable, set the idle adjustment till it' sits @ 800 in neutral
600 in Forward

THen the tough part is setting the idle mixture, Start with 1.5 turns out, but when you turn them in, be extremely gentle
you want to run the engine, while turning them in until the sound of the engine changes, then turn them out till it changes, ALL while in gear. so if you turn out 1 turn from the last change when you would HALF that..

that should be the optimum setting.. then you may need to readjust the idle setting a little.

ALSO check to make sure the lock down bolt on your Distibutor is tight, if not and it move( which it does ) you'll then want to check and adjust your timing..

ALL of these instructions or better should be here on the site or you can download the manual in PDF form.
