carb problems???

Hello, probably a simple fix, but I have a Merc 115 that has not been run for 1 1/2 yrs. I managed to coax her into starting but had fuel shooting out all three of the carbs. I thought this was just the floats stuck so I lifted the tops and manipulated the floats and pressure valves. Now it runs if you have the throttle forward 1/2 way when starting. Do my carbs just need cleaning? If so, what is the best way to clean? Can a person run the engine spraying carb cleaner in, or what?? Any help would be appreciated.

It was not designed to run on carb cleaner. runs on mixed gas. quick fix to see if it is a dead engine, but do not run on cleaner for extended period of time.

merc makes a special carb cleaner just for outboards, check your local marine shops.

i highly reccomend installing new carb kits.
running too lean can quickly fry a piston!
intalling the rebuild kits is easy... getting
all the stuff off to get at the carbs is a lil
more time consuming.
good luck,
M.Y.

I agree with the rebuild idea. I just ordered a repair kit myself and expect to be back on the water by next weekend..!!
