I have a 72 50hp Johnson that I have had for about a year along with a 15ft fiberglass boat.

I have trouble with it dieing on me at idle or when I shift into forward.I have a workbook that covers too many different years and motors to be a big help.

Specifics:
I have dual carbs and a low speed screw sticking out of the front of each carb. What is a good initial setting for these, I realize I have to do this under load. Also I'm in Colorado at 5300ft.The engine has an instruction plate on the front but it's not legible any more.I have them both about 1/2 turn out right now and that will keep it running ok at lower speeds but I'm not sure I'm developing peak HP.

Thanks to all that reply.

Re: Carb Problems

you are right at the level for high altitude jets. it could have sea level jets in it. 1/2 turn out is very lean. this is the second time today we need a mile high mech.
