I have an 87 125 hp Force motor. Just for kicks the other day I decided to check the idle mixture screws. I was kind of shocked to find out that the screws were aprroximately 3/4s of aturn out from closed.I know this isn't real good for the motor,as the engine lubrication relies on the oil fuel mixture. I do have a manual and I went through the idle screw setting procedure. The best setting for the idle seems to be about 3/4 to 1 turn out. How can this be?????

Re: Carb question

My manual is only for older Chryslers but are close cousins to the Force.Initial settings are
1 turn out and my manual states final adjustment
is done warm under load.( idling in gear)
At idle 2 strokes get more than enough oil.
Idle setting is for smoothest operation too lean and it will tend to sneeze and stumble on
acceleration, too rich and it will lope and
shudder on acceleration. Most motors on premix
will tend to foul plugs when run for extended time at trolling speed,

Re: Carb question

think it's fair to say that you are not likely to affect lubrication by making idle screw adjustments. If it's too lean (not getting enough pre-mixed fuel), the engine won't idle well or won't idle at all. The gas to oil ratio does affect lubrication, however. Too little oil in the mix means the engine won't be sufficiently lubed. Depriving the engine of (pre-mixed) fuel does mean that, all things being equal, it's not getting enough oil for lubrication -- but it's not going to run if it's starved for fuel, so the lubrication issue seems to be kind of moot.
