Re: carb rebuild question

No adhesive or sealant is necessary on any of the carb gaskets.....

When you are disassembling, leave the throttle and choke butterflys in the main housing and soak in cleaner.

Just make sure you remove all core/welch plugs pryor to soak. no sealant required on gaskets. after new core plugs are installed, I recommend that you put some fingernail polish on the edges or even some OEM sealant. Only snug new parts! No need to try and break screws. Post back and good luck.

fishing dad ... you cant junk the motor, how ya take the kids fishing.
Not sure if this will help you. I have a 1966 33 hp electric start also. Engine would start and die out in 5 seconds. Carb has a little gas come out of the air intake. I rebuilt carb, needle and seat were probably the problem. It started up fine with no more flooding. now working on some other issues. One at a time.
I know carb is a pain to bolt on, as studs on engine dont allow much room to get those nuts started. dont give up now.

Re: carb rebuild question

Does it sound like it's revving up properly but not going anywhere? If so, you most likely have a spun hub on the prop. If it's just not developing any rpm's, you're probably running on one cylinder. Also, have you checked compression?

i agree with all the advice that was given! dont give up on yer motor.....it sounds like its as simple as a cracked fuel line or your tank isnt allowing air to come in. ive seen so many motors given up for dead, when its only the simplest thing thats causing all the grief. a few bucks for the things you dont think will cause probs, will pay off in the end.

Re: carb rebuild question

Sorry for your hardships daddy-o!!! At least you had a backup motor..... I don't have that option so I work my ***** off to get the one I have working properly. Next time don't give up so easily, on second thought, that's why there are some good deals on ebay and craigslist...
