Next step is to clean and re assemble....

Obviously some dirt and junk, but I would clean the entire carb and make certain every passage is clean and open and then install a new carb kit with new gaskets and adjust and use it again... :thumb:

Tony if that carb has any little orifices you can send strands of copper wire through to kind of "floss" them out. If any of the holes are really cruddy get a box of tiny drill bits and use the right size to not hog out the holes. They have cheap drill sets at Harbor Freight. But I have not seen any pin vises there which are great to hold the tiny bits.
Ps. I hope you took lots of before pictures, they can be a big help.

Installed the carb last night. Also installed a new filter/separator.
Cranked the engine, then looked down the carb to see if fuel was coming out when I pumped it.....not yet, had the cable removed.
Cranked some more and actually started, went over to the engine to work the throttle.......backfired pretty good, felt and saw the flame!! Guess the bowl wasn't filled just yet......:)

Anyway, after that she warmed up and ran fine. was getting late. Need to go back and fine tune the idle mixture.

Having a problem w/ the idle mixture.......think I have a vac leak.
If I partially close the choke the RPM's come up and it smooths out.
Can't get the right vac according to the gauge.

shoot some carb cleaner around to find the leak. Shoot it at gaskets, seals, shaft entries...

Did that exact thing.
Seemed to be leaking towards the top plate of the carb.
Tightened the screws a little more and now choke has now affect.
Took it for a ride........surging problem is gone and seems to idle fine in/out of gear.
Going fishing tomorrow...........

[FONT=Helvetica, serif]I still didn't like the way it was idling.
Went down to the boat again and continued to play w/ the idle mixture screws....to no avail.
I shut the boat down, removed the mixture screws and shot Gum-out down the passages.
Reinstalled the screws 2-turns out and re-started the boat.....same results.
Rev'd it up a little and it popped out of the carb.
I was then able to adjust the idle screws w/ much success, vacuum cam up and idle smoothed out.

Guess something musta been clogged!!

Rebuilding carbs is a roll of the dice. Sometimes they just cannot be rebuilt successfully. It could be a passage you missed... or maybe a passage that is messed up from cleaning. The shafts themselves come into play when they get worn out and even bushings don't always solve the problem. Sorry to hear your problems!:blue:

Too early in the morning. I have only had one cup of coffee so far. I originally read that to say "without much success."

Glad to hear it works!
