Recently i decarboned a 13 yr old 3.0 merc (water) Actullayed smoothed out the idle a bit and ran quite good, But after setting for a few day's the low speed circut is now plugged quite well. Tried to remove the low speed needle and flush it but that did notta, so i am left with either a rebuild for maybe 50 or a rebuilt for 200 with core exchange. What concern's me is the amount of debrie's i must of picked up during the decarb and can it be blown out just using a air nozzel or should i just do a rebuild. Any opinions here.... its been years since ive done them but when i was it was pretty simple enough.

Re: Carb rebuild

i'd go for the rebuild. i'm a cheap azz. if ya loose, well, lesson learned. i don't think yer gonna do anything cleanin wize from the outside. only time i'd go to R&Rin is when parts are worn and don't interact proper. ie. throttle plates on a worn shaft, shearin away the venturi so ya get no idle circut. irreputable. plugged ilde circut would do it too. but i'd think tryin would be in order. i'd think soak it in a tank, + air and ya may have a chance.........

Recently i decarboned a 13 yr old 3.0 merc Recently i decarboned a 13 yr old 3.0 merc (water)
how did ya do that? and what's
, sorry i aint understandin that.......unless ya ment decarbed by water injection, mist.......

:D Yup very slowly poured about a 1/2-3/4 cup of water in her at about 1200 rpm, let here run for about 10 minutes 3 days later she's (idle circut) plugged hard. The carb has no wear on any of the linkage's choke is solid never a problem in 13 years, but the preivous owner just putted around i doubt the boat has even seen Wot...:D
