Greetings...

I have a 2003 Yamaha 150 HP TXRB. My shop is telling me carb rebuild. $300 in parts, $600+/- in labor. I have done thermostats, water pumps, props. Can I do this job with the Seloc manual or should I leave it to the pros? I am fine to pay if this is out of my league but if this rebuild is easy enough I would like to save some $$. Also, they are telling me 6 hours labor. Is that accurate?

Re: Carb Rebuild

carb rebuild labor on that 150TXRB is about 2 hours including replacing both fuel pumps. pumps are about 40 bucks each, kits if needed, are expensive but normally all that needs replacing is the bowl gasket and the occasional needle valve.
6 hours to do a 150 2 stroke is nuts.
I can do twins carbs and include water pump, T stats and pressure control valves in about 7.
ask them to show you the yamaha flat rate manual on carb rebuild time and go from there.
and make sure they read it correctly.

Re: Carb Rebuild

Thank you RODBOLT. Is this manual that you are referring to something that I can access online? Also, with the kits that are provided, is it merely replacing one part with another, or is there more technical calibrating and or adjusting that needs to happen? If I thought for a minute that I could do this myself, I would give a try. I am not opposed to paying a professional, but now i am wondering what I am paying for. He mentioned it takes 2 hours per carb to take it apart, boil it off, and rebuild. Does that make sense? Thank you for your time.

Re: Carb Rebuild

I never boil them, and even if I did its like watching your washing machine.
99% of the time, remove the carb, remove the bowl, clean the bowl, pilot fuel jet, main jet and reassemble with new bowl gasket.
although remember to remove the floats and needles, keeping them in order, carefully spray out the idle air passage and the fuel inlet passages. then reassemble.
check the link and sync and go play.
look very carfully at the lower edge front of the carbs, if your carbs dont have a tiny brass tube sticking up you can use the 6e5 bowl gaskets as opposed to the 64D gaskets and save a coin or two.
