This outboard is leaking fuel out of the screen on righthand (starboard) side of carburetor when the Primer Bulb is pumped (and even a bit while running). I strongly suspect a stuck Carb Float.

What is the easiest way to remove the Carb? Do I need to remove the Breather Box and the Top Cover? If so, are there any cautions/"Gotchas" I should look out for?

The mechanical configuration on this E8RECR is very different than the 1986 or prior 9.9hp/6hp/4hp I have worked on. quite a bit. So any inputs would be appreciated .

cprodave, I looked at the link oldboat1 posted, and if that is your carb shown, it is identical to my '91 6 h.p. carb that I just rebuilt. You will need to take the silencer box off to get the carb off, and also, remove the recoil starter assembly by removing just the three (3) bolts on the mounting legs, and the entire assembly will just hang out of the way for you. DO NOT remove the center screw from the top of the starter recoil assembly. Your spring will unwind if you do that. The only problem I would say to watch for is the spacers on those three screws to remove the starter recoil are loose inside the hole that the screws goes thru. I dropped one and could not find the thing on my garage floor for the longest time (I ended up finding it). When I put it back together, I used a tad bit of silicone caulk on the spacers to hold them in place if I ever have to take the recoil off again.

Once you remove the air box (silencer) and the recoil assembly, getting the carb off is gravy. I put a rag below the carb so if I dropped one of the nuts holding the carb in place, it would end up on the rag instead of down inside the motor somewhere.

Oldboat and Iggy, thanks for the advice. I relooked at a couple diagrams and got the job done (although haven't tank tested or sea trialed yet)--found some water with related buildup in the Float Bowl and buildup on the Float Needle. I stayed away from that center screw on the Recoil Assembly. I didn't have any problem with the Spacers but just in case I always use the rag trick--learned that the hard way a couple years ago. Thanks again.
