i have a '71 evinrude 50hp, and also have a '79 johnson 50hp that i use for parts.

can I/should I swap the '79's carbs onto my '71?
will i get better performance, efficiency or anything?

many of the carb's parts use the same numbers, and my '79's carbs are brand new.

Re: carb swap: carbs from '79 onto a '71 motor

There is a 9% increase in displacement in the 79 engine block vs. the 71 block. This might affect airflow requirements and therefor carb sizing and calibration. If there was a difference and the carbs were made larger to accomidate, putting bigger carbs on the 71 might cause idle and off idle issuses. Hard to say, but unless the engines were IDENTICAL there is no guarrantee that swapping parts will result in proper performance.
