Ok, what I have is a 1984 Dodge Ram 1/2 ton, 318, 2 brl, auto, air, power steering, MSD ignition, stock distributor, (I have the centrifugal advance MSD distributor) Accel supper coil. What I (think) I want to do is get rid of the carb (and all related systems) and go throttle body injection. What I have looked at ( http://www.massfloefi.com ) (and others as well) bolts on and has all wiring etc. Most of these seem to use the GM throttle body system. What are the advantages and disadvantages of going this route? I would also be putting on an electric fuel pump with this system and doing away with the manual fuel pump. I would also be interested in multi-port injection.

Richard

Re: carb to throttle body conversion

You have to go with a new pump, fuel injection requires it.

Probably the biggest headache is routing a return line for the fuel pressure regulator. Finding a way to plumb it into the gas tank can be a pain.

Next pain is the throttle linkage. Dont know if your automatic trans has a kickdown linkage / cable, but if it does, that can be a pain too.

Go look at a 90s fuel injected version in the junkyard. You can get some ideas from that.

Ken

These systems are Multiport Fuel Injection (MPI) systems. I looked through the site and didnt see any Throttle Body Injection (TBI) systems. Note the fuel rails, and the fuel injectors installed in the intake manifold.
