After numerous questions posted and many, many, many hours of soaking/scrubbing/assembly/searching/etc my carb upgrade is almost ready so I thought I would offer a sneak preview and ask one more question.

Here's the beast in question:

This thing looks huge and mean just sitting on my workbench. Anxious to find out how my tweaked 302 likes it!

The carb is a Holley 6576 from a 1972 Mercruiser 255hp/351 IB.Fresh rebuild kit with new Electric choke conversion. 600CFM, Vacuum secondaries

Factory 1" spacer block

Weiand 8011 Aluminum dual-plenum intake (freshwater only)

Yup, I painted it silver, mainly because I had it left over and the cleaning process stripped much of the bronze.

Finding a Merc factory throttle bracket for a Squarebore is a pain.

Now for my question. There is a spring around the throttle shaft, presumably to close the butterflies if the cable comes off I'm guessing? It wasn't set properly when I got the carb, and I can't figure out how to get it set right. Anyone have a diagram of how to set this spring?

All of the 4.3ls, 5.7ls,+ 7.4ls that came with the Merc./Weber carbs are Squarebore........

Looks like you need Merc. Part # 805359T
I found that over Here.......

Thanks Bondo. Learned something new. All the ones I looked at when I was researching were spreadbores. I ended up ordering the bracket for the original engine that the carb came from. I pored ove a number of those diagrams on that site to get this far. I just missed those squarebores. The part you found was 2/3 the price of the one I ordered....
