I'm getting ready to make a cardboard template for my floor but I cant think of where to get big sheets of it. All I can think of is appliance boxes. Any other ideas of where to get big sheets?

Water heater boxes are some of the biggest I know of. And assembly-required furniture

I used cheap wood paneling for one of my projects, works great if you don't get into having to bend the template to get it copied.

I just finished moving a few months ago and when we unpacked I saved several wardrobe and mirror cartons. These work well and you can always use tape to add on pieces to make them large enough for a particular space.

You could also check with Sears or the like and get the boxes they toss when they unpack applicance display items.

What exactly are you trying to do? You don't need to template the whole floor in carboard if it's just the edges your after, you can just follow up the edges with carboard pieces duct taped together, go around the whole edge and then glue or duct tape a few wood stips to attach the two side patterns, no need to pattern all the realestate in the middle, but then again can't see what it is your doing.

FYI - All the big box stores recycle the cardboard. At home depot you can't even beg it from them. They get a premium for it because the clean and bale it onsite.

Ayuh,...

I just use stringlines,+ do the lay-out Once onto the plywood.....
Angles,+ sweeps can be plotted with shorter measurements...

If you're unsure of your ability, Cut it slightly Fat,+ trim it to "Fit"....

Good thought was brought up..cheap paneling would work fine though it won't quite cut with a knife

Re: Carboard Templates

paper drop cloths work well. available anywhere that sells paint.
one note on using a template that is a different thickness than your finished product is that it will fit slightly different.
