What is the best solution to remove the carbon build up from the shift shaft and drive shaft of the FD-20C

Why would you want to remove it? Is it that thick? Those parts are in the exhaust housing and will just get black again when you run it awhile.

Putting new seals in gear unit and just cleaning everything up before I put it back together
