Ok i have been looking at the keeping of my vro system or not. Here is what i have found all over. That the vro rarely fails and it is actually the jets being plugged causing the cylinder to not get proper oil which causes the problem. i could be cloudy on this do to not being a marine mechanic so how do you keep the jets and carbs clean to prevent this supposed issue.

Re: Carbs jets ect

The OIL section of the VRO pump rarely fails. I do not think I've ever seen one failing due to the VRO pump itself.
What fails in the VRO system are the fuel and air motor section.
When the fuel section starts to fail, it is normally noted by excessive smoke a same amount of oil is pumped and less amount of fuel. Leakage between fuel and air section might occur as well.
When the air motor (membrane) fails, the pump simply stops pumping like any other fuel pump.
I have however seen alarm failures, but often in combination with burned rectifiers/regulators or the use of battery booster chargers!
The VRO mixes the oil with fuel and this mix goes to the carbs.
If carb jets gets clogged, they even loose the fuel part and the engine runs lean. No difference in that case if using pre-mix.
Engines with VRO system should NOT be run dry (out of gas) as that will fill the carbs with oil only!!

Sorry it's a 120 hp .I am leaning towards keeping the vro. I believe it is a 1985 model. Once I get serial # I will post. Thanks to all who are helping out the rookie with all this stuff.
