Im rebuilding the carbs on my 1975 johnson 70hp (70 ESL 75 b) and my brother mentioned synchronizing the three carbs. He said he's not sure if u even do that on marine engines or not. So does anyone have any thoughts?

Re: carburator synchronizing

Yes, synchronization is quite important as per mentioned in your service manual.

Make sure that the throttle linkages between all carburetors are set so that at idle, all butterflies are closed AND just start to open ALL at the same time.

Assuming that nobody has changed the distance in the linkage between the vertical throttle arm and the nylon yoke that is attached to the the cam that opens the throttle via the throller roller.... simply make sure that throttle just starts to open when the scribe mark on the cam is dead center with the throttle roller. That's it.

If the distance in that nylon yoke arm assembly has been changed, then you'll need to set the idle timing as per your manual.... cam scribe mark aligned with enter of roller at 2 or 3 degrees, whatever it states in the manual.

Agree with Joe..........Do you have an OMC factory service manual ?? If not you should get one for future repairs.
