We just purchased our first boat - a 1988 Bayliner Capri Cuddy with a 1988 Force 85hp outboard engine. Needless to say, after our first adventure out we had problems with the engine dying out at the most inopportune time. Our boat is docked at the Riverfront Marina in Newbury, Ma. The marina manager looked at the engine and said we needed a carburetor float and that would be very hard to come by since the engine is considered obsolete. Is there any place where that part can be purchased?

Re: Carburetor Float

Before I'd believe someone else, I'd check the float myself. It's fairly easy to do. The first thing though is to get a manual for your engine. You may just need to rebuild the carb-another fairly easy task. While you're at it, rebuild the fuel pump too-even easier.BTW, if the float floats in a jar of gasoline, it's probably OK.

The carb floats are plastic. The only time I saw one fail was on a Force 150. The needle wore through the flange.

Hook the fuel up to the engine...squeeze the bulb and look for fuel to be comming out of the carbs.

Floats can be come by if this is the problem.

TMD

rickdb1boat, glad to see you're back. Looked at that web page you posted. Do you think the Chrysler carb repair kit at NAPA might work with his Force? They look very similar.

Re: Carburetor Float

If you need floats i have them in stock along with any other part you may need for your force motor. I agree with the dr. the floats dont go bad that often but it is something to check. thanks Bret forceparts@yahoo.com
