Any recommendations on which carb kit to buy? My inclination is to by the Evinrude kit, but the Sierra and Mallory kits are cheaper by just a few dollars. What do the experienced guys say? I have a low hour 1969 Evinrude 55HP Triumph 55973A that I've replaced the wiring and ignition parts on and need to rebuild the carbs...Thanks in advance for all replies from this great forum!! I'm new to boating and loving every minute of the adventure of bringing this motor back to life!

Either/or should work for you. I've only ever bout OMC carb. kits but only because of the shipping costs to Canada. Makes buying from a dealer just as good a price. The one thing I would be careful with sierra is that it seems many of their kits don't include new floats. Best of luck. Rick.

I been using sierra kits and never had a problem with 'em.

I believe the OEM kits include new floats, which drives the price up. You don't usually need new floats unless the old ones are saturated.

X2. The siera kits are fine unless you need floats, than get the oem kits.

if one kit doesnt have some parts that come in the other kit, that actually do fit your carb( not extra model parts) then they arent really cheaper. but its good to know you dont have to buy parts you know you dont need!

The nice thing about the #396701 factory carb kit is that it is the same for the 1968 55hp Triumph (the first one) all the way up through the 2005 model engines that used the similar carb design. That also makes it available for many years to come.
