Went out to try to start the boat ran fine. Then stalled all the sudden. Tried to restart. No luck. Unhooked the throttle linkage and advanced the throttle (while not running) and noticed it was spraying fuel unusually heavy into one side of the carb and none in the other. Maybe its flooded? Have not rebuilt the carb but looks like it was rebuilt before. Is this where I should start? I dont know much about carbs has anyone else had a similar problem?

Re: Carburetor Problem

Accelerator pump should pump fuel into both venturi. Sounds like one of them is plugged.

Remove the spark plugs and see if wet with fuel.

I'm not sure if my carb is plugged but I seem to have the same problem. Starts fine initially and will idle forever. When I put it under load for a minute or so, it stalls and will not start again for a few minutes. I had the carb kit and the electronic module, wires, replaced last year at a local boat shop but he didn't have a big wet tank to test the boat. Happening again, getting stranded, quite frustrating. I'm not sure where to start troubleshooting?

Welcome to iboats monty. Even though you have a similar issue you should start a thread of your own. It will get confusing getting answers for both questions,

Re: Carburetor Problem 3.0 Volvo-1996

One or both of the idle air circuits are likely clogged somewhere if it will not stay idling. As for spraying in only one venturi, the accel pump is suppose to spray both. There is only one pump that does double duty, so an orifice is plugged somewhere. Order a kit and rebuild it. Soak it for 24 hours in a good carb cleaner when dissassembled, and make sure to blow out all of the passages with compressed air and reassemble. Another thing to check would be fuel pressure. For carbs is should not be more than 6 psi, and not less than 3.5 or 4. Most speed shops sell small guages that you can splice right into the fuel line and see it live in action. I had a camaro that would not run right, even with a stock fuel pump, and would bleed fuel from the primaries at idle. Regardless of float setting it would idle irratic and stall. Turned out fuel pressure was 7 psi. Plumbed in a pressure regulator and knocked it down to 5 psi, world of difference.

Re: Carburetor Problem: Update

So I pulled the carb off, removed the bowl inspected and blew compressed air through everything. Looks good. Float also looks good. Put it back on fixed the one side that was not spraying-one side of fuel nozzle had debri in it. But its flooding worse than ever. Looks like the fuel level in the bowl is just above the float tang and inlet valve is closing off fuel to the bowl. When done cranking and throttle in neutral its pouring fuel down the throat.
Dothedew I think you might be on to something with the high fuel pressure, I'm going to make sure the tank vent is'nt plugged. Dont have a fuel pressure guage with those type of fittings :/

I had similar problems. Rebuilding the carb helped.
