Hi all,

Now that I have my engine running good I would like to get some of these 'smaller matters' corrected. This is on a 1972 85HP Chrysler.

I've about got my manual (Seloc) memorized but there still seems to be a lack of explanation on different things. One of these areas is in Carb Synch. There is an entire chapter dedicated to it but here is my question.

When I have everything set right (the idle speed is good, timing is right, line on the throttle cam lines up with center of Carb Eccentric screw, etc.) then my throttle shutter plates do not open up all the way. In fact, when looking inside the carb at WOT, they seem to be only half way open. OK, well, according to the manual, I should adjust the length of the throttle control link.

But here's the problem: If I adjust the length until I get horizontal plates, then at idle, the throttle cam is not even close to lining up with the eccentric screw and my engine races at idle. Am I missing something??

It's like I'm not getting enough 'throw' but my towershaft is rotated all the way at WOT, it's just the plates aren't opening all the way.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

Shane

Re: Carburetor Synch Question

Adjust the Control link for Full throttle first.

Then align everything else.

^ is how I do it at work.^

Keep in mind...you have a 1972 Engine...stuff wears out and does not line up anymore.

TMD
