I odered new carpet, stripped the old, cleaned my deck and am ready to glue. However, my water cleanup glue says it can't get wet fo five days! I don't have a shop large enought to put my 24' pontoon in for a week. What glue is available locally that is not water clean up? No 3M sprays, I am covering 200+ square feet. I need it ASAP so local hardware stores or the like is a requirement.

Have you considered covering the pontoon with a tarp for the 5 days? I don't recall the 5 day wait on most glues. Try Lowes or HD and see what they have for outdoor carpet glue..

All the indoor/outdoor glue at my Lowes and Home Depot are water cleanup and have a five day 'No Water' requirement. These two store do not carry just outdoor adhesives or solvent based. I have considered the tarp, I am just concerned about it getting wet even by accident. I don't want my carpet to feel like a dried used paint roller.

Have you checked out any of the contact cement solvent type glues at Lowe's? Personally I'd never use a water cleanup glue for any boat project... But that is just me... It would seem that if you can cleanup the glue via water, that even after five days it would still effect the glue if left wet for any period of time after that...

How do you use contact cement for carpet? When used in other applications, both surfaces are coated, allowed to dry and the set together. The moment they touch it's set. This seems to be impossibly difficult with a 24'x8.5' piece of carpet.

Same response as 84Venture:
Dap 00443 Weldwood Outdoor Carpet Adhesive

Stuffs 24$ a gallon but dries in 24 hours sets in 1 hour if I remember correctly.

Goes on the deck with a trowel. I would also go to any tool rental place and get a carpet roller it's a must!
