In home depot, they have some nice looking outdoor carpet guaranteed three years outside, and a picture of a boat as a usage for it

My question is, I fish in salt water, and salt water fishing gets hairy, blues start slamming and next thing you know you have rods bending all over the place, a floor full of blues and blood

is carpet and fishing something that dont belong together?

I thought about this very thing Ray, the wife and kids want carpet and I keep thinking about glassing up the sides more and painting and putting down rubber mats so I can hose it down.

They want the carpeting, but guess who cleans the boat??

I know WK, lol, that typically enjoyable task would become ... ahem ... ODIOUS once there was a carpet to deal with ... of course, if it just hoses out, fine, but otherwise, I dont want my boat smelling like a french wh... er, like a french wharf full of fish

:D

The obvious solution is to set the boat up for its most often used applicaton, but wives do not want to hear that. I personally dislike carpet, carpet did not go in my boat, and the old lady has no problem with wearing sandles if it gets hot, but you could always apply rubberized floor paint and install snaps so you could snap in carpet when taking the familia out, and unsnap for those wonderful bloody days.

thats a good idea Jason, I seem to recall you using a rubberized covering, how does it feel on your feet? skid resistant?

personally, I have VERY strong feelings about how my ship is run, for one thing bare feet are FORBIDDEN ... too easy to slip into unforgiving seats and consoles, toes turn into twigs when asked to deflect the mass of a body, ugh ... and the idea of a bare foot around a BLUEFISH, lol, no sandals allowed when fishing

I know, capt Bligh ...

there are obvious exceptions to the rule, if you are just in from swimming, well yeah, but if the boat moves, feet get protected

for my fresh water friends ...

a blue fish was swimming up a river, when a minnow, too dumb to know the danger, said hey, ive never seen you before

the blue, swimming slowly and looking quite swollen, said, Im a bluefish, I live in the ocean way down at the end of this river

you came from DOWN the river? what about the muskies???????

bored, the blue burped a few scales out and said, oh them ... they taste like tuna!!!

:D :D :D :D :D :D

my boat has anti-skid marine vinyl. not only is it
easy to keep clean, but doesn't absorb/hold water.
one reason my 30 yr old floor is still solid as a
rock I think.
good luck,
M.Y.

great call JB!!!! will it adhere well to resin coated plywood? I dont want to do this over again any time soon, The Gang has me dreading it anyway, lol, they keep talking about their backs hurting afterward, mine hurts going into the danged thing

for the starcraft, would a wood sealer do the trick? or is resin the only way to go?

Gelcoat applied with a texture roller and then lightly painted workes for me.. If ya get it too ruff in the "texturizing process", just sand it down a little...

Rhino's good too..

Hey Ray, on the uscomposites sit I found:

1: color that can be added to gelcoat so you can match your interior.

2: you can buy non-skid grit to add to the gell coat.

If you really do not want carpet I would look into this.

Re: Carpet on a fishing boat?

I like the IDEA of carpet, but the reality would be rather nasty ...

but boy do I love the look of djohns sea nymph, god that is one sweet looking set up, carpet up on the console and all

carpet also hides a multitude of sins, I can woodcraft cabinet grade goods, BUT with this infernal chronic back pain, I dont know how good a job I can do with the floor (g dane made a comment about pretreating the stringers then glassing them in, Jason countered with the better adhesion resin has when its all done at once, apperently the bond is made at the molecular level when you have appropriate time to let it set)(I should be reviewing my psychology papers, instead Im absorbing Runabout Renovation ... hey, thats chemistry, long chain polymers and all that, hehehe)

the snap in carpet is an option, but then you have the snap studs sticking up, dont know if I would like that ... eh, I dunno, there is also the thought that I am a foul weather boater, if the forecast calls for rain but no lighting or wind, Im out there, fish like rain for some reason, I think the divergence in pressure triggers feeding instincts, and a waterlogged carpet would just weigh the boat down

Chugboat Annie has carpet in her that is shot, what I did with her was to put a big vinyl runner down, with little vinyl spikes to hold it in place molded into the backing, but I was always aware that I Had to be careful ... whereas the orginal SeaMaster had a awlgrip sort of floor, sand in paint non slip finish and when the slammers hit, haul em in, and let em flop around the boat, it all scrubs out at the end of the day, the original Hydrophobia was just painted aluminum, same deal, soap water and borax and out it came

I think Ill stop before I write a book, lol, I do tend to ramble on and on and on
