Carpet Pad

The pad under our carpet is glued down pretty stiffly.Will anything other than a scraper and elbow grease get it off????<br />Maybe somathing to soften the glue.<br /><br />Thanx in advance.

Why on earth did that instraller glue the carbet pad down. It is supposed to be stapled down.<br />You might have rubber back carpet and it just turned the top alose and just appears like pad.<br />Any way back to your problem. Go to a hard wear stpre and tell them you want a straight hoe. They should know what you are talking about.<br />When you go to remove the pad just wet it down not saturate it but wet it good and it helps the carpet glue turn loose. Then take the straight hoe and scrape it up.<br />Let it soak for a couple hrs before removeing.

Man--What a PAIN!!!Finally after several hours of scraping,scraping and more scraping we got the pad out.The room is 10 feet by 20 feet and had a 1 foot strip of glue all the way around with a 1.5 foot strip at the seam down the middle of the room longways.Not to mention the 7 steps that had about 60 staples in each one.I expect to have some very sore muscles tomorrow.<br />We know the guys that are installing the new stuff very well and they assured us that no glue would be used.<br />Bubbakat--Thanks for the tip.It did make it easier.

when i bought my house real old fixer up all the carpet is glued downnot just on the edges but the whole thing first room had hardwood flores spent 16 hrs on hands and knees with a little scraper,i do feel your pain but wait until tomarrow hot bath and aleive nothing like working on your house bet its going to look good.

Actually I am going bonkers with "Project Overlap Syndrome."The bathroom remodel needs a window and door and that is done.The family room ceiling retexture and carpet replacement will be done Wednesday with the carpet installation.If the windows we ordered for the daughter's room come in this week then I will be installing them next weekend.It hasn't affected the boating time but the golf has been minimal.Nine more windows,five interior doors and one exterior door and I will be done with the "little"projects.

im on a contiual work in progress just got done with dinning room ,living room,the old lady wants me to start on bathroom now and foyer,i understand the overlap syndrome.(love that phrese going to have to use it at work)good luck with the projects.

But typicaly it was just a small stream sqeezed out of the can..like spreading syrup on pancakes. The purpose was to keep the pad from shifting when the carpet was positioned and stretched and to keep it from creeping over the tack strip.
