Re: Carpet Question

You can use regular indoor/outdoor carpet glue. You don't need a lot of glue. Too much pushes through the weave and the carpet fibers will get permanently matted down in those areas. Snap-in for the traffic areas is a good idea. Another option is to use double back tape along the edges.

sandwichestime I used formica glue the same stuff used to hold down counter tops, good stuff and it doesn't take much, a quart will do you @ 6 or 7 bucks. mine has been there for 2 years now and still holding fine. here is a pic.

Re: Carpet Question

Well I had outdoor carpet glue and 3M 77 spray. The carpet glue is still holding up great but the 3M stuff is letting go of the carpet. :(

The Carpet glue is a bit harder to use. You need a trowel and it can get messy.
The 3M is a lot easier but is not working like its supposed to. And yes I know how to use it I followed the directions.

I like the Home Depot carpet better than the Lowes stuff.

Make sure you get a sharp utiity knife with replacment blades. It makes life easier.

Re: Carpet Question

Just plain old run of the mill gallon can of contact cement. Use a brush is cheaper than messing with a paint gun.
Follow the directions..Carefull, when it's stuck, it's STUCK.
3M-77 is too light duty for carpet. 3M calls it their heavy duty adhesive, but, it's still not heavy duty enough for carpet...sure hold headliner material in place though.
Probably even hold carpet if the backing was smoother.

Bought all of it for $13.99 at Menards. I believe the role was 13'x 17', so I had lots left over since my boat is only 14ft long. For adhesive I used Industrial strength Contact Adhesive from Locktite that claims to be permanent and moisture resistant. Cost me about $12 for a spray can of it.....worked great.
