carrying Nissan 2-stroke

I have a 1997 Nissan 18 hp 2-stroke, which I've always moved/transported vertically, or horizontally with the power head resting on the back of the cowling (prop lower than the power head). In order to save my back loading and unloading gear on the beach from a landing craft, I recently purchased a great beach dolly/cart with low-pressure inflatable tires. The only way I can safely use the cart to move the motor is to put the outboard upside down (to keep the weight near the dolly's center of gravity). I've read that 2-strokes can be transported in any position, but my Nissan manual says that the motor should be transported only vertically or horizontally (i.e., with the power head resting on the back of the cowling). So, is it ok to transport this motor upside down or not?

that may be because the cowl will not support the weight.

For two strokes:

In this case is has to do with trying to keep consumers from transporting and storing engines with the lower unit higher than the power head. The rational is based on the idea that leftover water in the cooling system could wind up in inappropriate places inside the block. All outboard manufacturers design based on gravity...Doing a 180 degree carry is a BAD THING in terms of longevity.

For four-strokes:

All of the above water concerns and then the problem doubles because of oil in the crankcase going where the designer never envisioned it going.

The motor will not have been in the water for several weeks before I use it next month. I just ran it briefly (used a muff/hose for water supply) and now it will be stored upright for the next several weeks. So, can I assume that by the time I will next use it, all water will have drained out, and that I can go ahead and transport it upside down (it would be upside down for no more than 20 minutes, if that makes any difference).

It's hard to say if will have all drained out or not, there could be a small pocket of water inside that never drains out. Also how will you be getting it back from the water?

Going ashore from the landing craft, we'd just roll the motor off the ramp onto the beach so it won't be in the water. On the way back, the motor will have been in the water so we would have to keep it upright.

I wouldn't assume the water has evaporated that quickly....But, maybe it would be alright.
