Some how, I ended up with a trailer with catamaran "remains" on it. One pontoon needs light repair, the deck needs a little work...I'm wondering if I could screw down a deck and strap an outboard on it. I'm not into sailing, but I'd love to have a lil pontoon boat!

Any thoughts appreciated!

it CAN be done.... if you are talking about a hobie... a 16 can handle up to about 1000 lbs but would perform better with 600 or less that's crew deck fuel battery engine ... all of it.... they are designed to run up to 15 or 20 mph and the hulls are designed to track toward center....

you would be far better off with an electric trolling motor.... also most have foam cored hulls.... very light and not so easy to fix... they delam very easily

This ones 20', no foam inside at all. trolling motor, huh? You think it would be enough? It would simplify things...

Trolling motor would probably only get you 4-6 MPH for a 12volt and that would be with an aftermarket prop. But you can buy a 12 volt, and just run it with 24volts to get a good bit more boost. The nice thing about a trolling motor on something so small is you can relocate the batteries. Just use some good low gauge wire and run it all the way to the controller to eliminate losses. I have one I thought about running on my kayak, would be cool. Wonder if I could get it on a plane? Hmm...

I used one on an old Grumman square transom canoe when I was younger. Pretty sure it was the $99 Wal-Mart variety of trolling motor. The thing would scoot!
