Well the old CATillac (17' spectrum us marine fish and ski) i got back in 2004 needed a floor. the rear was falling through and getting real soft. So a couple weeks ago i decided i would just get it done. we went out fishing while back and i about went through it so i got busy.

it was a job but really wasnt as bad as i thought. i thought i was gonna have to remove the side panel beams that was running through the rear to front and the drivers consoles. i did not. the old floor only went under the lips about 1 1/2".

the foam was soaked with water as i found a little hole in the bottom from a rock. it was small but about the size of a flathead screwdriver tip. so i removed the foam and put new in. i used 5/8" treated plywood. i used rubber strips over the aluminum that the floor went down to. as the new ACQ treated eats bare aluminum up. chemical reaction from the chemicals or copper in them. also i painted 2 coats of exterior paint over the wood to keep water out. cleaned off the bottom of boat with degreaser and the fuel tank while i was in there. patched the small hole with 2 part epoxy inside and out.
pics of floor coming out. new foam in and coated wood going in.

putting carpet on the x cooler. was a cooler/battery cover box. cooler was plastic insert. ice lasted about an hr on a hot day. removed insert and cut the alum box back to add some foot room.

ripped the front out on either side of the floor compartment. this is the wood i was worried about running way under where i couldnt get it out. but fortunatly it went under the consoles about 1". and the entire floor was rivveted down. so i just ground them off and the wood pried out with little resistance.

all the ply was screwed down with stainless screws for maximum corrosion protection. i took the aluminum battery box cover in the shop and spray glued the carpet on it.

the foam in the front section was dry so it remained. the transom board was also replaced. it wasnt to bad but if i was re carpeting the boat i figured what the heck. it was easy. got the carpet on it.

i went to an estate sale. the women was a seamstress. i got a big peice of outdoor fabric. not real keen on green color but it was $2. so i used it. also got some foam rubber sheets for $2. the boat had cusions in the front over live wells and on battey box cover. they were sun cracked and faded. i laet them sit out to long. so i hand sewed the battery box cusion by hand. foam rubber filled.

all the carpet on floor over the exterior paint was installed with a trowled on waterproof outdoor carpet glue. this should protect the wood as well. but i plan on keeping it covered at all times while not in use.

i removed all the padded panels from the inside. the tarp had freyed off this winter and i left it. so these were soaked and full of water and getting bad. i rebuilt all them with 3/4" plywood. took some new foam rubber and re covered with the green outdoor fabric i got for $2. used a ton of staples to hold the fabric on.

while i had them off i re carpeted the sides with spray adheasive as this was all over aluminum.

this is the new ones. i installed them with finish washers and ss screws. hey look good. the ones in the rear really didnt have to be there but they act as a wall on the beam and serve as a storage for rods or seat posts ect. cans of bait whetever. so i went ahead and built and installed them. the front ones serve as a elbo rest protector sort of deal and the drivers side has the throttle through it.

also the exposed wood on the rear was painted with two coats of exterior paint to keep water off and out.

the inside of my live well covers i used counter top laminate. i had used the paneling that people use in bathrooms 2 years ago when i re did the front deck but it had warped and molded. the laminate wont do that. gold flake granite. looks cool.

the rear seat to fish from installed. had to put a hard plastic 3/8" spacer under it to get it up off the fuel tank. its bolted through with the toothed washers that suck up into the wood and hold. and ss lags in the nylon plate as well.

new black carpet was also put under the floor in the life vest oar storage hole as well.

the front seat i got at a garage sale for $5 the same day i got the fabric. thats why i went was the paper ad said boat seats. so we went to a few other sales and found the fabric and foam by luck.

the lid for the oar storage also was covered under underneath with the laminate. added a recessed handle. also the lid has new wood as well.

since this last pic i have re built the blue and white pads that wrap around the front of consoles and the one that wraps around the front inside bow. also re carpeted the legs of consoles. the reason i joined iboats was as when i was mounting one of my fishing lights i grounded a hot wire screwing on a cover to light. smoked my cdi box. thats now fixed and ive learned alot more about my engine and more. thanks everybody. thought ide share this article i did on a fishing forum. this was done back in march.
