I have a 19 foot Horizon with a 1996 40 horse force motor when operating at idle or just above it is fine, when you throttle it up it cavatates terribly as you decrease power it goes away any ideas?

Re: cavatation

motor too high, load on boat balanced wrong. too much weight forward. i have a 140hp on my boat, i have to throttle up slowly, then get faster. proper prop for the application would help also.

Re: cavatation

If this is a new developement it may be a spun hub.Put a indelible line across the underside of the hub run the boat and check the line. You can get the hub repaired at a prop shop.

Also make sure the motor is not tilted out too far.
