cavitation plate

I would like to know if it would effect the way my boat performs if the cavitation plate is about 1 to 2 inches below the bottom of my boat or does it have to be even with the bottom. The motor is a Yamaha 25 hp 4 stroke.<br /><br />Thanks

Generally speaking the plate should be even with the bottom of the boat.<br /> Also the higher you can get the motor without ventilation problems the better it will perform.<br /> If you raise it 1 inch successfully you could gain as much as 3 mph.
