Hello:
Would there be a problem if my cavitation plate was 1 to 2 inches below the bottom of my hull instead of being level with the bottom.

Thank You for you help

Re: cavitation plate

None other than it will most likely slow the boat down a little. If your not looking for performance you will be just fine.

Re: cavitation plate

I have a 9.9 hp long shaft on a short shaft transom (5" difference) and it runs just fine - not as fast as it could if it were set up correctly but OK for what I use it for.

Re: cavitation plate

What engine on what boat, staybent?

Small boat/engine just increased drag and squirrely handling.

Big boat/engine major increase in fuel usage, reduced top speed, dangerous handling particularly if trimmed out.

Bad idea in either case.

Re: cavitation plate

Most likely you'll have some water spraying up the transom. It's possible for the motor to injest some of the spray. May not but it's possible.
